Electricity Prices in Pakistan | Consumers Set to Face Another Surge

The Breaking News About the Electricity Prices in Pakistan are set for another surge; In order to modify fuel charges, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested that customers of ex-Wapda Distribution Companies (DISCOs) pay an additional Rs. 5.62 per unit for power for the month December 2023.

The proposal for a public hearing on January 31 has been approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) regarding huge surge in Electricity Prices.

The CPPA emphasised in their plea on behalf of DISCOs that the cost of the energy given to DISCOs was Rs. 11.0225 per unit, however the cost charged from consumers in December was Rs. 5.4031 per unit. Previous adjustments of Rs. 0.7003 per unit are included in the recommended increase of Rs. 5.6194 per unit.

It is important to note that NEPRA informed DISCOs of an increase in electricity prices of Rs. 4.12 per unit under the fuel costs adjustment (FCA) for the month of November. The aforementioned increase will show up on customer’s bills for the current month, January.
