The Sindh government, in partnership with the World Bank, has unveiled an initiative to provide full solar systems to the public for an accessible price of only Rs7,000.
The goal of this project is to address the province’s energy problems and offer sustainable electrical alternatives to all families.

This initiative would provide entire solar systems to 200,000 families in Sindh, including 50,000 in Karachi, for a modest fee of Rs 7,000. Every solar system is built to run three LED lights and a fan, giving homes the necessary ventilation and lighting.
The director of alternative energy in Sindh stated that 6,656 solar systems will be installed in each district of the province, marking a substantial distribution effort across all regions. With solar panels, charge controllers, and batteries included in the system package, the project is scheduled to start in October as soon as the purchase is finalized.
With funding from the World Bank which has allotted $32 million for the project, there is potential for future growth.
Sindh has demonstrated its commitment to renewable energy sources by producing 400MW of electricity from solar power.
However, the Punjab government has announced plans to give 50,000 homes in the region free solar systems. The project, fully funded by the provincial government at an estimated cost of Rs. 10 billion, aims to reduce electricity bills for low-consumption households.
Households that consume up to 100 power units per month are eligible for the free solar systems under the program. The government will pay all costs including the price of the solar systems and their installation.
