LAHORE – The Emergency Rescue 1122 service will be made available on motorways by the Punjab government in December of the current year. Training the rescue workers will be aided by the University of Health Sciences (UHS).
This statement was delivered on Monday at the UHS as Khawaja Salman Rafique, Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education, presided over a meeting. He said that continued funding for UHS would be sought after and underlined the need to use universities as think tanks a resource that had not been fully utilized in the past.

The minister was briefed on the services offered to students by Vice-Chancellor Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore during his earlier visit to the UHS facilitation center. Rafique spoke with kids at the center and said he was impressed by the amenities, pointing out that hundreds of pupils are served there every day. He highlighted that UHS currently employs 32 Ph.D. faculty members and recommended raising this figure. He said that he would be stopping by the university’s new campus the following week.
UHS VC expressed gratitude to the minister for his visit and mentioned that 300–400 students and visitors use the facilitation center every day. This center serves as the primary point of contact with the institution and offers assistance with registration, exams, and degrees. He claimed that because university labs are outfitted with the newest technology, they have the potential to develop into centers of excellence for diagnostic services. He believed that the laboratories could serve as a referral lab for the entire province of Punjab if they received government backing.
Additionally, Professor Rathore highlighted UHS’s contribution to the standardization of nursing, medical, and dental education. To attain a similar level of standardization, he argued that pharmacy and related health sciences education should be isolated from general institutions.
