Muscat — On Wednesday afternoon at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground the 11th game of the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup saw the Pakistan Shaheens defeat the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by a commanding 114 runs. Shahnawaz Dahani’s first five-wicket haul and captain Mohammad Haris’ undefeated half-century drove this victory which assured Shaheens a spot in the semi-finals scheduled for Friday, October 25.

The Shaheens set 179 for 4 in their 20 overs with Haris scoring 71 runs off 49 balls. Despite having a solid start opening batsmen Omair Bin Yousuf (21) and Yasir Khan (25) fell during the Powerplay leaving the side at 49-2. Before Muhammad Farooq of the UAE claimed two fast wickets, bringing Shaheens down to 112-4, Haris and Qasim Akram (23) contributed 62 runs. Haider Ali then scored 32 off just 17 balls as part of Haris’ 67-run partnership with him. Farooq was UAE’s most impressive bowler taking three wickets for 27 runs.
As Dahani claimed three early wickets the UAE found it difficult to match the scoring, reaching just 28-3 in the first six overs. With 20 runs off 18 balls, captain Rahul Chopra led the UAE in scoring, with Tanish Suri (15 runs) and Syed Haider (12 runs) following closely after. With five wickets for just 12 runs in four overs including two maidens, Dahani’s outstanding bowling effort came to an end. Ahmed Daniyal, Mohammad Abbas Afridi and Arafat Minhas each took one wicket while Sufiyan Moqim contributed two to the total.
