Men’s Cricketer of the Year Declared at ICC Awards 2023

Today, ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year Declared! The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the top-performing One Day International (ODI) Cricketer and the Sir Garfield Sobers Cricket Player of the Year for 2023.

In the running for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year were Virat Kohli from India, Ravindra Jadeja, Australia’s Travis Head, and the Australian captain Pat Cummins, who secured the World Cup victory.

Pat Cummins has clinched the Sir Garfield Sobers Cricket Player of the Year for 2023, showcasing excellence in both the Test Championship and Cricket World Cup triumphs.

Having a great year in 2023, Pat Cummins took 59 wickets and scored 422 runs in 24 matches, playing a pivotal role in Australia’s success in both the Test Championship and the World Cup.

The nominees for the ICC Men’s ODI Player of the Year 2023 included India’s Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, Shubman Gill, and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell. Despite this, Virat Kohli, who had already secured the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award in the previous year during the World Cup, emerged victorious again.

This marks Virat Kohli‘s fourth win, with previous victories in 2012, 2017, and 2018. In 2023, he scored 1377 runs, took 1 wicket, and set a record for the most centuries in ODIs in a year, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record.

Additionally, Kohli broke Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in ODIs in a calendar year in 2023, becoming the first player to achieve 50 centuries in ODIs. This exceptional performance further solidified Kohli’s position in the cricketing world.

Australian opener Usman Khawaja had an impressive year, scoring 1210 runs in 13 Test matches in 2023. His remarkable performances earned him the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award.

The ICC also announced the Test Cricketer of the Year, with Australia’s Travis Head winning for his outstanding contributions in 2023. He competed against Pakistan’s Usman Khawaja, India’s spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, and England’s Joe Root.
