Lahore – On Sunday the Punjab government announced a plan to provide free solar systems to 50,000 households in the province.
According to the information the province government is entirely funding the effort which has an estimated cost of Rs 10 billion and intends to lower the cost of power for low-consumption homes.

Households using up to 100 units of power per month will be qualified for a free solar system under the program. All expenses including the price of the solar system and installation will be paid for by the government.
Households engaged in power theft, meter tampering or any other fraudulent activity will not be permitted to participate in the program to maintain transparency and equity.

By texting their identity card number and bill reference number via SMS to 8800, households that meet the eligibility requirements can register for this program.
The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will receive the data from the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) once it has been further verified for the qualified subscribers.
Upon completion of the verification procedure, the district administration will get the final list of qualified families for implementation.
To ensure the project is implemented successfully, the Department of Energy has also approved the creation of a specific Project Management Unit.
