  • Established in 1973-74 within Agriculture University, Lyallpur, Faisalabad Medical University (FMU), previously known as Punjab Medical College Faisalabad, began its journey under the leadership of Late Prof. Dr. M. H. Toosy, overcoming challenges and limited resources.
  • Initially affiliated with the District Headquarters Hospital, the college expanded, and by 1981-82, under the guidance of the 2nd Principal, late Dr. F.M. Choudhry, the college building was completed, facilitating the relocation of basic departments.
  • All departments feature modern facilities, including well-equipped lecture halls, audiovisual resources, laboratories, museums, demonstration rooms, and offices for teaching staff.
  • Allied Hospital, established in 1978, with 1100 beds and cutting-edge technology, was set up for both educational and healthcare purposes, courtesy of JICA (The Japan Government).
  • Recognized by the General Medical Council of Britain and Irish Medical Council Republic of Ireland, FMU gained autonomy in 1998, with a Board of Governors empowered to oversee its operations.
  • In 2002, the Government of Punjab revised the act, introducing a new Emergency department at DHQ and Allied Hospital, providing 100% free medicines for the first 24 hours.
  • The Computer Research and Resources Lab, established in 2004, connects teachers and students with international libraries online, fostering global collaboration.
  • FMU’s Dental Section commenced in 2009, gaining recognition from PMDC in 2014.
  • Reconstituted and upgraded as a university on May 5, 2017, Prof. Dr. Al Fareed Zafar became the first Vice Chancellor, succeeded by Prof. Dr. Zafar Ali Choudary (T.I).
  • Today, FMU is an aesthetically pleasing institution with lush green lawns, a picturesque landscape, blooming flowers, and a community of dedicated students and teachers.
