Prince William’s first meeting with Meghan Markle was more cordial than rumored, with William making a memorable 18-word comment. Meghan later shared her surprise at the formality of royal interactions.
There have long been rumors regarding Prince William and Meghan Markle’s relationship that they are not very warm to one another. But their first meeting was more cordial.
Soon after Meghan started dating Prince Harry in 2016, Harry introduced his future wife to his family, which included Princess Kate and brother William.
The book “Finding Freedom” by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand revealed specifics of this initial meeting. William allegedly said, “I was looking forward to meeting the girl who has put that silly grin on my brother’s face,” when Harry introduced Meghan to him.
Meghan apparently thought that interaction with Kate was more awkward at that time.
Speaking on the Sussexes’ Netflix documentary series, Meghan asserted: “I had my first meal with Will and Kate when they came over. I recall that I was barefoot and wearing torn jeans. I’ve always hugged people, but I had no idea how uncomfortable it may be for many British people.
I suppose that I soon realized that the decorum on the outside also applied inside. There’s a forward-looking manner of being, yet that formality extends to both parties when you shut the door and say, “Now you can relax.” And I found that surprising.”
Harry mentioned Meghan’s accidental encounter with his late grandmother, the Queen, in another segment of the show. He said, “My grandmother was the first senior family member Meghan met. She didn’t know much about it all, so she was a bit shocked.”
“It’s weird. There was no great introduction of “This is how you’re going to meet my grandmother.” It was only a few moments prior that I realized I would be meeting her,” Meghan said. “He exclaimed, ‘Oh, my grandmother is here!’ as we were heading to Royal Lodge for lunch in the car. She will be there following church. “You know how to curtsy, right?” he asked while we were driving. And I simply believed it to be a joke.”
Harry went on to discuss their cultural differences: “How can you convey that to people? How can you justify giving your grandmother a bow? and that you should always bow, particularly to Americans. That’s kind of odd.” Still, Meghan eventually met and gave a curtsy.
“After her departure, Fergie, the Duchess of York, Jack Brooksbank, and Princess Eugenie all remarked, ‘You did great!'” Regards? “I was unsure of my actions.” Harry went on to say, “I recall how impressed my family was when they first saw her. A few of them were unsure about how to handle their personal lives. They were taken aback. Perhaps taken aback by the idea that a ginger could find such a lovely and wise woman.”
