Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the provincial government will introduce 500 new electric (EV) buses within the next two to three months. The announcement was made during his speech in the Sindh Assembly while highlighting the government’s public transport and development projects.
According to the minister, the People’s Bus Service is already serving around 125,000 passengers every day across Sindh. He said the government is providing subsidies on every passenger and plans to double the existing bus fleet during the current year.
Sharjeel Memon said Sindh was the first province to launch electric buses and Pink Buses for women. He added that the government’s transport initiatives are making travel safer, more affordable, and environmentally friendly for the public.
Speaking about the Pink Scooty Scheme, the minister said only around 150 women had driving licenses when the project started. Today, more than 25,000 women hold licenses, and the government plans to distribute more scooters if the number of licensed women reaches 100,000.
He also stated that the government will continue to promote women’s mobility while ensuring that the Pink Scooty Scheme remains reserved for eligible female beneficiaries. Authorities will strictly monitor the proper use of the scheme.
Discussing provincial revenue, Sharjeel Memon said Sindh successfully achieved its tax collection target of Rs 356 billion. He added that several major companies have their headquarters in Karachi, contributing significantly to the province’s economy.
Highlighting infrastructure development, the minister claimed that Sindh has completed 3,114 kilometers of roads, while development work is continuing in both urban and rural areas. He said additional road improvement projects are also underway.
Sharjeel Memon praised the recruitment of 97,000 teachers, stating that the hiring process was completed transparently without major complaints. He also appreciated the performance of Sindh Police in maintaining law and order.
The minister further claimed that Thar Coal is currently generating around 3,960 megawatts of electricity, which is being supplied to the national grid. He said the project plays a vital role in strengthening Pakistan’s energy security.
Talking about housing projects, Sharjeel Memon said the Sindh People’s Housing Scheme has provided homes to millions of flood-affected citizens. He described it as one of the largest housing initiatives launched after the devastating floods.
During his address, the senior minister urged all political parties to work together for the province’s development. He said improving Karachi’s image and attracting investment should remain a shared priority for every stakeholder.
He concluded by saying that the Sindh government will continue investing in public transport, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and clean energy projects to improve the quality of life for people across the province.
