FBR Introduces Surcharge for Late Income Tax Filers to Gain ATL Status

Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has declared that following payment of a certain surcharge taxpayers whose income tax returns are filed beyond the deadline may have their names added to the Active Taxpayers List (ATL).

The FBR unveiled S.R.O.1635(I)/2024 a new adjustment to the Income Tax Rules on Monday.

Individuals who file their tax returns by the original or extended deadline as determined by the Commissioner or the Board will be added to the ATL and will be considered active taxpayers for the most recent tax year per the updated regulations.

Due to the FBR the latest tax year refers to the tax year that was completed the most recently before the date on which the return is filed. If the deadline for filing the return for the most recent completed year has not passed the latest tax year will also include the tax year that the previous year.

When someone files a return with the Gilgit Baltistan Council Board of Revenue or the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Central Board of Revenue the FBR will add their name to the Active Taxpayers List (ATL).
