Lahore: To manage tomato prices during the off-season the Punjab agriculture department has implemented a pilot scheme for the province’s off-season tomato production.
A special package for the production and cultivation of vegetables in specific districts of the province has been introduced by the Punjabi government, which the chief minister of Punjab leads. Applications for off-season tomato growing subsidies on demonstration plots are being accepted. Subject to the requirement that they be district residents, each applicant will get a subsidy of PKR 200,000.

The following are eligibility requirements for the scheme:
- The candidate must reside in one of the following seven districts: Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Rajanpur, Attock, Hushab, Chakwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rawalpindi.
- A minimum of two acres should be included in the demonstration plot.
- A paved road should be where the plot is situated.
- The farmer must follow the Agriculture Department’s suggestions.
Application Process:
- The Divisional Director of Agriculture (Extension) or the Deputy Director must receive applications from interested farmers on the designated form.
- Application deadline: November 6, 2024.
- The full list of applicants will be released on November 7, 2024.
- By November 8, 2024, appeals for denied applications may be sent to the Agriculture (Extension) offices.
- On November 9, 2024, the district-by-district draw will be held in the relevant Director of Agriculture (Extension) office.
- Draw (district-wise): 11 November 2024.
- If a person is the owner of the land, they must produce the ownership documentation if they are the tenants, they must give proof of tenancy, an affidavit or an agreement.
- Appeals will be accepted or denied based on the decision of the relevant Director of Agriculture (Extension).
