To be eligible for this prestigious scholarship, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:
- Have a Canadian institution with a Vanier CGS quota propose you for nomination
- Enroll in a program that includes a sizable amount of research to pursue their first PhD degree
- Plan to enroll in the nominating institution’s PhD program full-time.
- As of May 1, 2025, completed no more than 20 months of doctorate study
- Have completed their last two years of study with a high academic standing as decided by their institution
- Not been awarded a PhD fellowship by the SSHRC, NSERC, or CIHR
There must be a significant research component in the eligible program that results in a project, thesis, or academic publication. If a joint program includes a strong research component, it can also be eligible if it is a professional degree, such as an MBA/PhD or MD/PhD.
The nominating institution sets the deadline for student applications, while institutions have until October 30, 2024 (20:00 EDT) to submit their applications.
